PPS programs closing down

Just some tips for the next wave of PPS programs closing down..

1. Even though you already know you are planning to close in 2 months, don't give notice until at least 3 days prior to closing. Affiliates LOVE late notice, it keeps them on their feet, keeps them switched on, increases excitement! Also changing links on multiple sites has to be the most enjoyable function a webmaster can perform, it's just fun!

2. Don't close down the sites.. just close the affiliate program!! Webmasters fully understand when you close the affiliate program with 3 days notice, then keep the sites up. Infact affiliates would rather you keep the sites up, and keep the traffic, rebills etc, as a thanks for all the wonderful years and good times where you generously paid them for sales sent. Webmasters are a sentimental bunch. Also think on the bright side, you are gonna have a ton of links out there which you no longer have to pay out on!

3. In your parting message/email, make sure you mention the good times, talk about how its impossible to continue, and be sure to slip in something about the "special relationship". When an affiliate is looking at losing a few thousand bucks nothing makes them feel better than a tactical "thankyou"!

4. Whatever you do ... DON'T consider the possibility of changing your business model ... it worked back in 1998 and it should still work now!! Ok so you can't dick surfers for 5 prechecked white text on white background cross sells that rebill for $350 a month, so obviously business is over and there is no way you can possibly keep the program alive. Adapting is for losers, and lowering payouts, adopting a true revshare model, cutting back expenses, even possibly giving up your $10k a day coke habit, these things should never be entertained!

Closing the program (or just the affiliate program) is the only solution, and affiliates know this. Surely you don't think affiliates would ever agree to less than a $40 payout on a $1 trial!!! Madness!!

5. Don't make the last payout, and if possible try to dick your affiliates for the last few payouts. They won't mind giving up the last few $k as a send off present, especially since you gave them 3 days notice! If you do get the odd ungrateful affiliate who wrongly feels they deserve to be paid for their traffic, then don't worry ... the more they need it the more broke they are and they can't afford to chase you. Sure they may rubbish your name on the boards, but you didn't really care about your rep anyway

6. Sometimes you need some reputation intact so you can start another program or another webmaster service in order to screw a whole new generation of clueless affiliate. New affiliates are constantly being fed This is where you cash out your bro points... bro! Hit up all those bro's you bought a beer for at 'convention xyz', and get them to call you a standup guy. Also make sure if you have any bro's in your program you pay them out, but only on the condition they post something awesome in your parting thread. In any case you ARE a 'standup guy'... you gave them 3 days notice!

Enjoy!

The truth is when a sponsor is faced with going down the last thing he cares about is his affiliates. He cares about bringing in some money. FULL STOP.

As for adapting. That takes skill and ingenuity.

As for sites that closed or shut the affiliate program because they could no longer scam customers. Good fucking riddance.

To affiliates who lost money sending traffic to these guys. Do you really think they would only scam customers and not affiliates???????

When all you are known by is a board nick, it's real easy to make up another one and come back as someone "new"

People in this biz use so many fake names, they're probably doing business with themselves and don't realize it

True.

But it takes time to build a reputation for that board nick.

Pro Tip: In the pay periods leading up to the close through in plenty of fake sales so the affiliate will promote you even harder. You're not gonna pay him anyway so why not.

what makes you think you matter.

seriously, like even a little bit?

none of the people who are going to turn off the affiliates are remotely worried.

trust me.

it will not be profitable to be an affiliate in adult in a very short period of time.

the writing is on the wall. i hope that everyone is reading it.

Who cares if an affiliate program which you promoted via PPS structure keeps future rebills?!?! Does it matter? You got paid for your sale, no matter how many rebills occur.

It would only matter on a REV share base no? some flawed logic here

The affiliate model is becoming unsustainable for many. It's simply too damn expensive.

Not only the high payouts being demanded there is also the cost of support and promotion to take into account. It's making the future uncertain for many.

A small addition. Some stupid webmasters are OVERSENTIMENTAL, so they will NOT delete your syndicated RSS content form their blogs and hotlinked FLV's from their tubes. The will leave them there but just REDIRECT the links to the other sponsors. I'm sure they will say a big THANK YOU!

Am I right in thinking if you kill the affiliates side you close down all the tools as well. And that would leave gaping holes in some affiliates sites?

Just about every PPS program has an afterthought revshare program just for shits and giggles. They close the lot, even the revshare side of things, so yep there are usually rebills

Also make sure if you have any bro's in your program you pay them out, but only on the condition they post something awesome in your parting thread. In any case you ARE a 'standup guy'... you gave them 3 days notice!

Enjoy!
Great post and sadly very true

I'm waiting to see a program close, but not tell anybody for a month and then say "We closed the affiliate program last month"

As for sites that closed or shut the affiliate program because they could no longer scam customers. Good fucking riddance.

To affiliates who lost money sending traffic to these guys. Do you really think they would only scam customers and not affiliates???????

I'm getting a lot of new CCBill program owners these days! People building out CCBill programs side by side there existing other programs. No need to cut checks, cascade billing, affiliates love them.

Problem is CCbill just scrubs like a demon posessed. The ratios i am seeing are just unbelievable. Also ccbill's stats are just awful, infact the whole system is hard to work with. But if they cleaned that up, and also turned down the scrub I would definitely use them more.

No rebills. But it will be interesting to see how long these programs stay up on the promotions that are left up and the promotions already done. They won't be closing down next week that's for sure.

As I pointed out in my earlier post, just about every PPS program has a revshare program attached to it. If you close down, you will have a number of affiliates who sent to the revshare program and hence you are keeping rebills. So YES ... just about every PPS program that closes is keeping rebills, because they all have a 'shits and giggles' revshare program attached.

Do you think all these closing etc is having an affect on affiliates, in the sense that some affiliates are just saying 'fuck it' and have begun themselves to do some "shady practices" in order to 'get back" at some of these fuckers? I don't know what an affiliate could DO - since I don't play that part of "the game" - but do affiliates just get FUCKED and there's nothing that can be done about it? I don't mean going legal etc - I mean doing some Black Hat "I'm gonna fuck up your shit" kinda stuff.

IF I was getting fucked like ppl on here obviously are I'd try to do something in revenge.
